Icebreakers for quiet Discord channels
Gentle conversation starters posted automatically after quiet channel periods. Members reply naturally in text chat with zero answer tracking, voting buttons, or intrusive message scanning.
How Quiet Channels Trigger Icebreaker Posts
Icebreakers evaluate channel activity automatically. They post open questions when text chat goes quiet without forcing conversation or collecting answers.
Quiet Channel Check
Hourly automatic checks measure channel idle time against your configured threshold (1 to 720 hours, default 24h).
Latest Message Verification
CLNR checks metadata for the latest message. Messages from bots, webhooks, or system alerts block automatic questions until a real member posts.
Public Question Delivery
If quiet threshold, 24-hour post gap, and quiet hours pass, CLNR sends one open question from your selected style library.
Natural Chat Replies
Members reply freely in text chat. CLNR collects zero answers and tracks no votes. Member chat naturally resets the channel quiet timer.
Quiet Duration (1 to 720 hours) defines how long a channel must stay silent before an Icebreaker becomes eligible. Separately, CLNR enforces a strict 24-hour minimum spacing between public posts, preventing question spam even if the quiet duration is set lower.
5 Conversation Styles & Guided 6-Step Setup
Choose the question tone that fits your server atmosphere. Styles represent conversation tone rather than age or intelligence tiers, ensuring appropriate prompts for gaming, hobby, or professional communities.
Light
Fun, easy, low-effort prompts for casual chit-chat.
Casual
Everyday lifestyle, hobbies, favorite foods, and weekend plans.
Thoughtful
Reflective questions on experiences, creative ideas, and perspectives.
Challenging
Playful debates, dilemmas, and friendly hypothetical choices.
Mixed
Rotates evenly through Light, Casual, Thoughtful, and Challenging questions.
6-Step Configuration Wizard
Launched via /icebreaker config
Choose a regular public text channel. Threads and announcement channels are unsupported.
Select required channel silence duration (1 to 720 whole hours, default 24h).
Pick from Light, Casual, Thoughtful, Challenging, or Mixed style libraries.
Define local timezone and start/end hours during which delivery is blocked.
Optionally ping a single regular role with questions. CLNR does not assign this role.
Inspect complete summary card and click Save & Enable to activate the configuration.
Quiet Hours, Role Pings & Manual Execution
Fine-tune when Icebreakers can post, notify relevant roles, and test or post questions on demand.
Timezone Quiet Hours
Block questions during night hours or staff downtime. Quiet hours prevent both automatic checks and manual posts from publishing to the public channel. Private previews remain accessible.
Optional Role Ping
Optionally notify a single regular role (such as a chat or discussion role). CLNR does not grant or assign roles. If the role becomes unavailable, CLNR skips the mention and issues a readiness warning.
Manual Post with Preview
Admins can preview questions privately with /icebreaker preview or trigger a manual post with /icebreaker post. Manual posts bypass the quiet wait but still require confirmation, active feature status, and readiness checks.
Anti-Repeat Safeguards & System Limits
CLNR operates under strict operational boundaries to keep your channels orderly without automated message pollution.
Bot & System Message Filter
If the latest message in the target channel was sent by a bot, webhook, or system event, CLNR pauses automatic questions until a human member sends a message.
Empty Channel & Delete Logic
An empty channel receives at most one initial question after its quiet period. Deleting an unanswered question does not trigger an immediate re-post.
Timer Reset Exclusions
Thread messages, emoji reactions, message edits, and voice channel join events do not reset the main text channel quiet timer.
Ghost Mode & Pause Sync
Enabling Ghost Mode or active automatic-action pauses temporarily suspends Icebreaker post delivery until pauses are lifted.
Required Permissions
CLNR requires View Channel, Send Messages, and Read Message History permissions in the designated text channel.
Unsupported Channel Types
Icebreakers run exclusively in regular server text channels. Announcement channels, thread channels, and voice text channels are unsupported.

Private Question Preview
Shows a question from your configured style library privately, only to you. Works even during quiet hours.
Manual Post with Confirmation
Triggers a manual public post. Bypasses quiet time wait, but requires feature enabled, respects quiet hours, 24h gap, and confirmation prompt.
Gentle Re-Engagement for Quiet Members
CLNR's inactivity management engine helps keep communities healthy without awkward manual purges or unfair member kicks.
Why Icebreakers work: Quiet members often want to participate but don't know what to post in a silent channel. When CLNR drops an open-ended question like "What food could you happily eat every week for the rest of your life?", members reply naturally in chat. This keeps channels warm, provides a friendly bridge back into conversation, and can count as normal activity under the server's configured tracking rules.
