Release Note

v4.2.0

24 August 2026

New Improvements Fixes

New

  • Community Casefiles bring a new asynchronous Mystery / Detective experience to CLNR, launching with the first Mystery / Detective theme pack and support for additional reviewed theme packs in the future.
    • Admins can start a shared fictional case with /casefile start, while members investigate it together over hours or days - reading the latest case update, voting on what to investigate next, uncovering evidence and twists, and returning whenever they have time.
    • There is no lobby and no need for everyone to be online at once. Community activity can move the investigation forward sooner, while time-based fallback keeps quieter communities from getting permanently stuck.
    • All Casefile evidence, suspects, and events are fictional. CLNR does not read message content, and real community members are never turned into suspects or victims.
    • Stage Cards keep the current investigation accessible, while admins can choose which member-facing channels may wake ready Casefile progress, configure scheduled starts and pacing, resume a ready stage with /casefile resume, and recover a missing or buried Stage Card with /casefile recover.
    • Admins can choose one or more available Casefile theme packs for /casefile start and /casefile schedule, and status cards show how many cases and variants are available in the selected pack set.
    • Casefiles include a final-decision vote before the reveal, so a community can identify the truth, pick a plausible but wrong conclusion, or reach the reveal without submitting a conclusion.
    • Community Casefiles are available to all tiers in Standard Mode. Any member can check the current case status at any time with /casefile status, while admins can end an active case at any time with /casefile stop.

Improvements

  • Border Challenge
    • Active cards now include private My Collection and Missing Flags buttons, so members can check their own progress without running a slash command.
    • Collection and missing-country posts still include clickable member references, but no longer ping the displayed member.
    • Missing Flags now includes Get a Travel Hint. Members can choose a suggested missing country or search for any missing flag, instead of being limited to the first 25 select-menu results.
    • Travel Hints now plan across both land borders and Sea Routes. When a ship route can help, CLNR privately charts the requesting member's next eligible Sea Route attempt toward the selected country.
    • Sea Route regions have been tuned toward nearby coastlines and island chains, making routes such as Papua New Guinea → Australia or southeast Africa → Madagascar much more natural than distant-ocean jumps.
    • Route Discovery now includes more than three times as many country facts, with more varied discoveries along the journey.
    • Active cards now give the main gameplay actions clearer visual priority: Find Flag, Use Joker, and Get a Travel Hint stand out, while collection, missing flags, progress, help, country info, and voting remain secondary actions.
    • Longer route hints now preserve the final stops, so members can still see how the route reaches the target country.
    • Travel Hint cards now include a private Ask community for help button that shares the route idea with the channel without exposing the private Sea Route probability.
    • Countries with only one land border, such as Vatican City, can now return across that border instead of becoming artificial dead ends.
  • Staff Advisories now include a dedicated Why Explainers track. The Border Challenge advisory also covers relays, monthly Expedition milestones, collections, missing flags, and route-planner-style Travel Hints. Several Staff Advisory hero images have been refreshed to reflect the current product.
  • Inactivity warning and inactive-role DMs can now include a localized best time to be active hint when CLNR has enough recent community activity data to estimate a useful activity window.
  • Admins can now disable scheduled policy check-ins directly with /checkin policy_schedule_toggle enabled:false, without reopening the full check-in wizard.
  • Admins of servers with an active Pro or Scale plan who are members of the CLNR Support Community now automatically receive the permanent Supporter role, independent of bot-list vote status.
  • Premium entitlement refreshes are now more frequent and more reliable after plan changes, so Pro and Scale upgrades are recognized sooner even when Discord's automatic update signal is delayed.

Fixes

  • Inactivity DM Why? and mute confirmations are less likely to show stale Unknown Guild placeholders when Discord's live guild cache is unavailable.
